I went to Elmwood Spa for my first time on an open Friday as my wife receives regular email blasts and the latest one came with a $30-off coupon for an 80 minute massage ($159 down to $129+HST).
Elmwood has plenty of amenities like lunch/brunch in one’s robe and a number of aesthetic services, but I mainly took advantage of the high quality water therapies: warm pool that can fit 4 swimmers comfortably; hot Jacuzzi that can fit 6 bathers non-awkwardly; and the steam room — I was the only one in the latter, as I arrived in advance of the 10AM massage.
My massage therapist, K.F., was very talented (warm hands) and I didn’t want the 80 minutes to end. She was responsive to my muscle soreness (I just started a new workout regimen with a personal trainer) but applied enough pressure to be therapeutic.
This is Kathleen’s part-time gig — she prefers recurring clients and it’s difficult at Elmwood to establish that schedule. As a contrast, her other workplace charges only $125 for a full 90 minutes (with no coupon/discount).
In summary, if you want a luxurious water therapy offering and are willing to pay a premium — ergo, more for less message — for a convenient downtown Toronto location, then Elmwood may be for you.
